Anthony Pirog
01/13/08 | It's been a while! Ok. A quick summary of what's happened in 2007. Janel and I spent almost two weeks in CA during the summer. We met so many amazing people! Mike Beck gave us two gigs and we greatly appreciate it. The Fernwood had us twice as well and let us rehearse in their patio area. We named a song I wrote there after a painter who made a painting while we were rehearsing. We played at the famed Esalon Institute and were too freaked out to participate in the public bathing. We Played the East Village Cafe and turned down the second gig they offered us because we decided we were on vacation. We got back to DC and I opened up for Eugene Chadbourne with the PRV TRio. He used my Deluxe Reverb reissue and Zxex Fuzz Factory for his set with the original Mothers of Invention drummer Jimmy Carl Black. Janel and Anthony did a set opening for TV On The Radio's Kyp Malone at Zebulon in Brooklyn and he returned the favor by coming to the Galaxy Hut in Arlington where we opened for him again. He stayed at our apartment and hopefully became a true friend. The Anthony Pirog Trio (Jeff Reed-bass, Larry Ferguson-drums) played their first gig at Bossa followed by a tribute to Sonny Sharrock's album Ask The Ages with Janel Leppin (cello) and Rob Muncy (sax). What A great Debut! A new group Improviso that i'm a member of played at Banjo Jim's on Ave C and 9th during Norah Jones's guitarists Adam Levy's residency. My Danelectro baritone was stolen at that gig. My first stolen guitar. Janel and Anthony performed at DC's noise festival Sonic Circuits. Mark Feldman and Sylvie Courvosier were scheduled to play with Janel and Anthony the day before Thanksgiving but failed to make it down from NYC. We played duo and with Allan Biller on bass and Dave McDonald on drums as a quartet in their stead. The Anthony Pirog Sextet made their debut two days before with Rob Muncy (sax), Joe Hererra (trumpet), Janel Leppin (cello), Jonathan Steele (bass) and Dave McDonald (drums).
